Lord’s Day Exhortations_20150913
Worship Exhortations
For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. John 1:17; My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. 2 Corinthians 12:9; For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly. Psalms 84:11.
ufficient, strengthening and honouring grace: The Lord Jesus Christ has told Paul that His grace will be sufficient. Through Lord Jesus Christ came grace after grace – it is sufficient, strengthening and honouring grace.
He that followeth after righteousness and mercy findeth life, righteousness, and honour (Proverbs 21:21). The Lord will honour – with life and righteouness – everyone who shows mercy after receiving the grace from Lord Jesus Christ.
A leper came to Jesus, worshiping Him – “Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean” (Matthew 8:2). Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, “I will; be thou clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed“. Those who have come under the authority of Lord Jesus Christ can worship the Lord. Jesus Christ has taught them with authority because He did whatever He said. The leper is a person who should live out side of the camp of Israel (covering himself and shouting, “unclean, unclean“). He came to Jesus and asked Him, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. Jesus said, I will. Immediately he was healed of leprosy. Similarly, we are also healed of our sins and unrighteousness.
Table Exhortations
But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that He by the grace of God should taste death for every man… For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted (Hebrews 2:9-18).
esus Christ became like one among us: In Hebrews chapter 1, we observe that the Lord Jesus Christ as the heir of all things, and as the One who made the worlds, the brightness of His glory, and the express image of His person upholding all things by the Word of His power, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high being made so much better than the angels and obtained a more excellent name than the angels. But when we come to chapter 2 (from verses 9-18), we see Jesus as the One who was made little lower than angels to suffer death for the world that He by the grace of God should taste death for every man. Jesus Christ was perfected through sufferings, in other words, He became the perfect sacrifice. He became like one of us. He is not ashamed of calling us as brethren.
The Holy God lived among His people in Tabernacle (in between the cherubim on the mercy seat). He commanded the people of Israel, “be Holy as I am Holy“. He walked (or dwelt) with Enoch, Noah, Abraham. But through Jesus Christ, we are elevated to the heavenly places (to the presence of) of God. We need to set our affection on the things above and live a holy life.
We should, therefore live as the people of the kingdom of God (as Jesus told in the sermon on the mount, Matthew 5:1-12). We should have hunger and thirst for righteousness.
